Theron vs Mindbody: discovery platform or coaching record?
Mindbody is a booking and payments platform with a consumer marketplace attached. Beyond running your schedule, it puts your studio in front of people searching for a class in your area. For a studio that depends on discovery, that marketplace is a large part of what is being bought.
Theron does not compete with any of that. It holds the coaching record: the plan each member was given, what they logged against it, their adherence, their sessions and their renewal date.
So the comparison is not feature against feature. It is whether your problem is filling the room or keeping the people already in it.

What Mindbody is good at
The consumer marketplace
People browse Mindbody looking for classes. Being listed is a genuine acquisition channel, and no coaching tool offers an equivalent. If new members find you that way, that alone can justify the platform.
Breadth across wellness businesses
It covers studios, salons, spas and clinics, so the scheduling and payments model is general enough to handle unusual setups — multiple locations, mixed service types, staff commissions.
An established operational stack
Bookings, memberships, retail, payroll-adjacent reporting and marketing tools in one contract. For an owner who wants a single vendor for operations, that consolidation is the point.
Where Mindbody may not fit
It measures transactions, not progress
The platform knows who booked, who paid and who showed up. It does not know whether the member is following their programme. For a gym whose value is coaching rather than access, the number that predicts churn is not in there.
Heavy for a small coaching operation
A large operational suite carries setup and admin overhead that pays off across many locations and staff, and does not for a coach with 30 clients.
Cost is contract-based
Pricing depends on modules, size and negotiation rather than a published rate. That is normal at this tier, and it means comparing it against a published per-seat price needs your actual quote in hand.

When not to switch
If the marketplace brings you members, stay. Theron has no discovery channel and will not replace one — losing a working acquisition source to gain adherence data is a bad trade.
If you run classes, retail or multiple locations, the operational suite is doing real work. Theron covers none of it.
The case for moving is a coaching-led gym or a nutrition practice paying enterprise money for scheduling it barely uses, where the actual service is programming and follow-up. Then most of the contract is overhead and the coaching side is the part that is missing.
